    Stephanie E.W. Thompson received a BA in Literature from the University of Hawaii, West Oahu, and her law degree from the William S. Richardson School in 2005, where she served on the editorial board of the Asia Pacific Law Journal. Ms. Thompson is a Director at Starn O’Toole Marcus and Fisher (“SOM&F”) and has been at the firm for over twenty years. At SOM&F, Ms. Thompson has developed a diverse practice that focusing on commercial business and real estate disputes. Before joining the law firm of Starn O’Toole Marcu & Fisher, Ms. Thompson clerked for the Honorable Victoria S. Marks (Ret.) at the Circuit Court of the First Circuit, State of Hawaii.

    Ms. Thompson has extensive experience in a wide array of litigation matters, including complex commercial owner/landlord and tenant disputes, construction defects claims, disputes arising from real estate and other transactions, claims arising related to the management and operation of condominiums projects, as well as disputes related to the control and operation of corporations, LLC’s, and partnerships. Ms. Thompson has participated in numerous mediations and arbitrations and has been successful in resolving disputes for her clients through creative solutions and negotiations, obtaining favorable settlements and decisions on behalf of her clients. She is an accomplished trial attorney, successfully defending as well as prosecuting claims on behalf of her clients.   She has also completed the Mediating the Litigated Case program through the Pepperdine Caruso School of Law.

    In addition to her litigation successes, Ms. Thompson serves as a Lecturer in Law at the William S. Richardson School of Law. Since 2018 she has developed and taught the eDiscovery Course at the law school. For over a decade, Ms. Thompson has also served on the faculty and now the co-chair of the Hawai`i State Bar Association’s Trial Academy, a two-day intensive course regarding trial litigation practice. Ms. Thompson has actively supported and participated in the Litigation Section of the HSBA, acting as its Chair in 2015, and a vice chair in 2025-26. Ms. Thompson has developed and presented on the topics of eDiscovery and related issues for bar organizations not only across the State of Hawai`i, but also the nation.

    Ms. Thompson has been named to The Best Lawyers in America® list in the practice areas of Appellate Practice, Commercial Litigation, Electronic Discovery and Information Management Law and Real Estate Litigation. She holds an AV Preeminent® rating from Martindale-Hubbell® for both her skill and integrity. Ms. Thompson has been recognized by Chambers and Partners USA Leading Lawyers for Business in the practice area of Litigation: General Commercial. Ms. Thompson has been selected for inclusion to the Hawaii Super Lawyers® list since 2021in the practice area of business litigation. Ms. Thompson is the first and only E-Discovery and Information Management Law attorney who has been selected to the Best Lawyers in America® list for 2024.
