Background
Robert Frija received his BA degree from the University of California, at Irvine, in 1974 and his law degree from Western State University, College of Law, in 1980. He is licensed to practice law in Hawaii and California.
His early years of practice focused on the area of product liability, including a year of practice in California (1981-1982) and the period leading up to and following his admission to the Hawaii Bar, in 1989. Thereafter he practiced primarily in the area of personal injury law, from 1993 to 1996, with the law firm of Roeca Louie & Hiraoka.
In 1996, he formed Law Offices of Robert B. Frija, ALC, in which he represented a number of national and local entities, including, at retirement (in April 2019), The Hertz Corporation, USAA, Dollar and Thrifty Rent a Car and AAA, handling a wide assortment of cases, including personal injury, product liability and premises liability cases.
He has served as a Court Annexed Arbitration Program Arbitrator for over 20 years and on a joint HSTJA-HSBA Committee (in 2016 and 2017), which served as a clearinghouse for issues concerning the conduct of judges and attorneys and the global administration of justice.
He has completed The Mediation Center of the Pacific 24 hour Basic Mediation Training.
Those who have worked on litigated cases with him are aware of his unique approach to case resolution, by way of early face to face meetings with counsel and his fair evaluation of cases.
