    David R. Harada-Stone graduated from Roosevelt High School in Honolulu in 1978, received his BA in Journalism from the University of Hawaiʻi at Manoa in 1986, and received his law degree from the William S. Richardson School of Law in 1994. He served as Editor-in-Chief of the University of Hawaiʻi Law Review.  He has also pursued post-graduate coursework at the University of Connecticut Law School Insurance Law Center.

    Following Law School, Mr. Harada-Stone served as Law Clerk to the Hon. Samuel P. King, Judge of the United States District Court for the District of Hawaiʻi.  Thereafter he worked as an associate with McCorriston Miller Mukai MacKinnon and later Tom Petrus & Miller, LLLC in Honolulu before returning to his home on the Big Island to work for the Law Offices of Jerry Hiatt.  For most of his 30-year litigation career Mr. Harada-Stone has concentrated in the areas of insurance coverage litigation, bad faith defense, uninsured and underinsured motorist coverage arbitrations and personal injury defense.  He also has significant experience representing plaintiffs and defendants in employment litigation, business disputes and tort matters.  Mr. Harada-Stone’s practice has included involvement in numerous mediations and arbitrations, pretrial and trial work, and appellate advocacy before state and federal courts.

    Mr. Harada-Stone has served as a per diem judge in the District and Family Courts of the Third Circuit since June 2023.  He has served as an arbitrator with the Court Annexed Arbitration Program in the Third Circuit since 2002.

    In 2025, Mr. Harada-Stone completed Mediating the Litigated Case, an intensive course offered by the Straus Institute for Dispute Resolution at Caruso Law School – Pepperdine in California.  He also completed the Basic Mediation Training course with the West Hawaiʻi Mediation Center, where he volunteers as a mediator.
