    David A. Nakashima is a graduate of the University of California, Santa Barbara (1973, honors) and the University of Hawai`i, William S. Richardson School of Law (1977).

    Since entering private practice in 1977 David has concentrated on civil, business, real estate and construction disputes.  He has obtained favorable verdicts as lead counsel in over twenty jury trials and decisions in many more jury-waived trials and arbitrations.  David brings an interesting and balanced perspective to legal disputes, having represented both plaintiffs and defendants as well as corporations and individuals in litigation, arbitration and mediation. He has also handled numerous appeals and presented oral arguments before the Hawai`i Supreme Court, Hawai`i Intermediate Court of Appeals, the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals and the U.S. Bankruptcy Appellate Panel.  He has handled cases involving Banking/Finance/Foreclosure, Commercial Business, Construction/Design, Contracts, General Civil, Partnership/Corporate Law, Professional Liability, Real Estate, Real Property.

    David has taught pretrial litigation class as an adjunct professor at the William S. Richardson School of Law and has served as a speaker in a number of trial-related seminars. He has served as a Court Annexed Arbitration Program Arbitrator for over 20 years.

    David has been recognized by a number of national attorney rating organizations including Best Lawyers in America©, Benchmark Litigation, Martindale‐Hubbell and Chambers USA Leading Lawyers.  He was honored as Lawyer of the Year in Construction Litigation (2016) and Real Estate Litigation (2021) by Best Lawyers in America©.

    While litigating disputes to verdict or decision David also recognizes the advantages of mediation and arbitration.  Through his experience David looks for creative methods to fairly resolve disputes outside the courtroom.
