Alan J. Ma, Esq. is a graduate of the University of California Los Angeles with a bachelor of arts (Cum Laude) in Economics and Business. He received his law degree from the Georgetown University Law Center in 1991.
Mr. Ma has been in private practice in Honolulu, Hawaii since 1991. Mr. Ma has a diverse practice, including commercial and consumer lending, real estate, general business law and litigation, debt restructuring, loan workouts and bankruptcy. A significant portion of his practice involves representing institutional lenders in commercial loan transactions. Another focus of Mr. Ma’s practice involves real estate, including buying, selling, leasing, managing, developing, and financing. He also currently represents lenders in loan restructuring negotiations, foreclosure litigation, and bankruptcy proceedings, and has represented borrowers in such matters in the past.
Mr. Ma also maintains an active practice as a mediator. He mediates real estate, condominium, consumer, commercial, bankruptcy and foreclosure disputes. He also acts as a volunteer mediator at the Mediation Center of the Pacific and as a mediator in the Alternative Dispute Resolution program for the Bankruptcy Court for the District of Hawaii, where he mediates bankruptcy adversary disputes. Mr. Ma was also a speaker at foreclosure mediation training programs for the Hawaii Circuit Court foreclosure mediation pilot project and the foreclosure mediation program under Chapter 667, Hawaii Revised Statutes, created by Act 48 (2011).
Mr. Ma has been a member of the American Bar Association and the Hawaii State Bar Association since 1991. He has been appointed as a foreclosure commissioner in cases involving commercial property.
