Peter S. Adler, Ph.D. is a mediator, arbitrator, and facilitator with 25-years of experience in dispute prevention, dispute management, and dispute resolution. His practice is both national and international and includes commercial, environmental, organizational, and construction matters. He has worked on hundreds of cases which required good process, careful analysis, and creative problem solving.
Adler currently serves as President of The Keystone Center (www.keystone.org) which provides specialized mediation services for environment, energy, and public health controversies involving regulations, standards, and law-making. Through Keystone’s efforts, conservation incentives for landowners have been expanded, old chemical weapons have been safely decommissioned and disposed of, new strategies to combat obesity have been put in play, pandemic vaccination priorities have been clarified, federal facilities have been cleaned up, and better consumer information has landed on prescription labels.
Dr. has held executive positions with the Hawaii Justice Foundation (1992-2001), the Hawaii Supreme Court’s Center for Alternative Dispute Resolution (1985 to 1992), and the Neighborhood Justice Center (1979-1985). He has been a court-appointed special master on numerous cases and is Past President of the Society of Professionals in Dispute Resolution (SPIDR). He has written extensively on mediation and conflict management) and is author of Managing Scientific & Technical Information in Environmental Cases, Oxtail Soup for the Island Soul (Oxbow Press, 2001), Beyond Paradise (Oxbow Press, 1993), and the forthcoming Eye of the Storm Politics: The Art and Craft of Navigating Human Hurricanes. He has held fellowships with The Mark O. Hatfield School of Government at Portland State University, the Western Justice Center in Pasadena, and was the Roberston-Cunninghame Scholar at the University of New England, New South Wales, Australia in 1999.
