Michael W. Gibson attended Iolani School, graduating in 1966, the University of Wisconsin where he received a BBA degree in 1970, and Hasting College of Law where he received a J.D. degree in 1973.
Upon completion of law school, Mr. Gibson worked for two years at the Prosecuting Attorneys’ Office in Honolulu and has worked at Ashford & Wriston since 1976. He is an inactive member of the California Bar Association. He has been the President of the Hawaii State Bar Association (2002), the Legal Aid Society of Hawaii (1996 and 1999) and Volunteer Legal Services of Hawaii (1985-1989).
Mr. Gibson has served as an arbitrator in the Court Annexed Arbitrator Program since 1987. He has served as a hearing officer for the Board of Land and Natural Resources and the County of Hawaii Planning Department. He has also served as mediator in numerous civil matters and as an arbitrator with DPR and various private parties.
Mr. Gibson has a Martindale-Hubble “AV” rating and has been recognized by Best Lawyers in Hawaii and America in the specialty of Real Estate Law. His practice focuses on real property and commercial litigation. In addition to appearing in all of the Circuit Courts in the State of Hawaii he has also appeared before the Water Commission, the Public Utilities Commission, the Hawaii County Planning Commission, the Burial Commission, the Land Use Commission, and the Honolulu Zoning Board of Appeals.
