STARN O’TOOLE MARCUS & FISHER
Ken Marcus graduated from the Wharton School of Economics and Finance in 1972, and received his law degree from the New York University School of Law in 1975.
From 1976 through 1989, Mr. Marcus had a national real property practice based in New York City, assisting clients in the acquisition, financing, development and sale of properties in over 25 states ranging from shopping centers (regional malls to neighborhood strip centers) to office buildings, multi-use developments, hotels and apartment buildings. He handled complex, multi-property acquisitions, including the assembly and financing of the investment vehicle as well as the development and management arrangements for the properties acquired.
In 1990, Mr. Marcus came to Honolulu. In addition to his real property practice, during the 1990’s he handled the business and corporate aspects of the reorganizations of the Hawaiian Insurance Group and Investors Equity Insurance Company. While with Starn O’Toole he has helped lead its growth from 7 to 23 attorneys.
Since 1983 Mr. Marcus has concentrated his practice in the acquisition, sale, development and management of hotels throughout the United States and has served as the receiver in connection with foreclosure of resort real estate. He has represented buyers, sellers, lenders and hotel management companies, and has for over 15 years been a member of the International Society of Hospitality Consultants, an invitation-only professional society comprised of 200 top consultants in the hospitality industry with members in 21 countries (see www.ishc.com for more information).
Mr. Marcus has served as chairman of the Real Property and Financial Services Section of the Hawaii State Bar Association, has received Martindale-Hubbell’s highest possible professional rating (AV) for both his skill and integrity, and has received recognition from several other attorney rating organizations (including The Best Lawyers in America) for his skills as a real property attorney. Mr. Marcus has trained at the Straus Institute for Dispute Resolution at Pepperdine University’s School of Law.
